Everywhere Girl, The Book

Everywhere GirlIf you’ve ever worried about photos from your past coming back to haunt you, get to know the story of the Everywhere Girl. Over a decade ago she was a young actress posing for a series of stock photos. While she’s no Mona Lisa, in recent years her photos have made their way into royalty-free collections and crept into print and web designs the world over. First chronicled in Paul Hales’ technology blog The Inquirier and later by Idée’s own CEO Leila, the Everywhere Girl now even has her own blog. While fans have been compiling her images with the human eye for years, no method is better suited to this kind of task than image-recognition technology.

We indexed a series of Everywhere Girl photos using PixID our image recognition technology and have been monitoring the appearance of the Everywhere Girl. Here are the interesting results from our book cover monitoring project:

[…] Remember the saga of the “Everywhere girl”? This is a stock photograph of a college aged woman that appeared in advertisements all over the world in the last decade – at one point the magazine The Inquirer declared, “Everywhere girl continues world domination.” Using this photo makes it seem that all of these big companies don’t care what their customers’ problems are or even who their customers are, the same image has been used again and again and again, and again. […]

Hi Coug, thanks for the link!

Leila Boujnane Feb 04 08 at 4:32 pm

wow that’s cool! I’ve done some stock photos, wonder where I’ve ended up? The girl I shot with is everywhere though, just saw her on a commercial 2 years after the shoot. She might be the next Everywhere Girl!

james Feb 24 08 at 2:27 pm

hmm, what I said was confusing: what I meant was the photos I shot with the girl have shown up everywhere. One of the photos just showed up on a commercial and I found another one at capturethecall.com (she’s the blonde on the right). Wonder if my photos from that shoot showed up anywhere? Is there a free version of PixID?

james Feb 24 08 at 2:30 pm

OMG that’s hilarious. I work for a non-profit org. that’s used this chick on the front of a flyer used for encouraging high school students to look into trades as a career. I’m in Nova Scotia, Canada. Now THAT’S obscure!!

It’s not THAT obscure… I’m also from Nova Scotia :)

Ryan Jan 08 09 at 2:27 pm

Ryan: if you use TinEye (at TinEye.com) you will see that your “news junkie” photo appears in a few more sites! Here is a couple http://flickr.com/photos/hyperbio/3192626850/

Leila Boujnane Jan 12 09 at 6:03 pm

Good stuff.

I bought a series of shots a year or so ago off of istockphoto for some mockups I was doing. About a week later I noticed the same picture popping up in online ads. Nothing like the girl you’re showing here, but still funny.
